Steven Wilson

“I was born in '67 the year of Sgt. Pepper…..


Steven Wilson nació en Londres el 3 de noviembre de 1967. Es el fundador de PT, además posee proyectos paralelos como: No – man, Blackfield, Bass comunión, I.E.M etc. Etc.

Steven desarrollo su amor por la música desde pequeño, todo partió una noche de navidad en que sus padres hicieron regalos mutuos en forma de LPs, quienes recibieron “The dark side of the moon” de los magistrales Pink Floyd, y “Love to love you baby” de Donna Summer.

El creció escuchando esta música, pero obviamente desarrollo un interés mucho mayor por Pink Floyd, lo cual hizo que apareciera Porcupine Tree y blackfield, pero también algo de Donna quedo en él y se plasma en No – Man.

Steven no es como otros músicos que aprendieron a tocar guitarra porque era lo que todos los niños tocaban en el barrio, si no que a él lo forzaron. A pesar de esta “mala experiencia inicial” Steven encontró una vieja guitarra acústica, con la que empezó a hacer algunos temas y grabarlos en el primitivo cassette, como su padre era ingeniero electrónico cuando Steven tenia alrededor de 20 años le contruyo una grabadora multi – pista, con la cual empieza a tomar el gusto y a experimentar las formas de grabación de un estudio.

Steven además ha colaborado como productor para la banda Opeth, también ha tocado con Jordan rudess, apareció en un tema de DT y hace muy poco la reconocida banda King Crimson lo eligio para que hiciera la remasterización de sus albums. Se dijo hace poco que produciría a Anathema pero esto no se concreto ya que Anathema aun se encuentra en proceso de composición y Steven hoy no cuenta con tiempo para poder entrar al estudio, ya que se encuentra en gira por “The Incident”.

Gavin Harrison

Gavin Harrison comenzó a tocar la bateria a la edad de 6 años influenciado por su padre Bobby, quién fue un trompetista bien establecido de jazz y parte baterista de medio tiempo. A la edad de 11 años Gavin estudió con un baterista de función Joe Hodson quien le enseño cómo leer y escribir música junto con una base sólida de agarre(grip) y técnicas de tiempo Él comenzó a tocar profesionalmente a los 16 cuando salió de la escuela - y ha continuado hasta el día de hoy.

Sus estudios continuaron con Dave Cutler graduado de Berklee

Gavin de allí en adelante básicamente aprendió solo.

En 19 años de edad, Gavin se unió al progresive rock band Renaissance and toured America y fue de viaje a América por primera vez Él más tarde se unió a Iggy Pop en 1986 para una gira mundial.

Alrededor de este tiempo Gavin comenzó a trabajar de baterista de sesión en Londres - y procedió a registrar álbumes exitosos para Sam Brown - Black - Gail Ann Dorsey - Tom Robinson. Él también conoció al guitarrista local Jakko M Jakszyk y juntos formaron el proyecto Dizrhythmia críticamente aclamado junto con el bajista Danny Thompson y el percusionista indio Pandit Dinesh.

Inicio una relación larga y provechosa con Dave Stewart y Barbara Gaskin y ha sacado ventaja de todo sus álbumes desde 1980s

Por los 90s Gavin se une a un grupo británico de funk Incognito y graba el álbum más exitoso de su Vida con el single Always. Al poco tiempo él fue invitado a tocar y grabar en Japón con Yasuaki Shimizu y luego a Italia para grabar con Alice, Eugenio Finardi, Fiorella Mannoia, Franco Battiato, Raf. Gavin comenzaba a ganar interés verdadero en la escena italiana y comenzó a trabajar con artistas de reconocimiento como Claudio Baglioni en 1992 junto con Tony Levin en bajo.

Despues del tour italiano Gavin fue invitado a unirse a Level 42 para su última gira y grabar un álbum en vivo en la última noche de dicha gira. Más tarde ese año él fue de gira a Brasil con el guitarrista de jazz Heitor Pereira.

1995 vieron a Gavin trabajando con un bajista Mick Karn de la banda Japón. Ellos graban el album Micks The Tooth Mother que presentan en una corta gira europea. Posterior Mick devolvió el favor y graba con gavin su primer albun Sanity & Gravity que también tocan Dave Stewart, Heitor Pereira, Richard Barbieri, Gary Sanctuary y Jakko.

Frecuente viajes de regreso a Italia para trabajar con Eros Ramazzotti y Claudio Baglioni otra vez y más trabajo de sesión allí. En 1997 Gavin comenzó a trabajar con la diva británica del soul Lisa Stansfield viajando alrededor del mundo. Sosteniendo un horario ocupado de sesión en UK y co produciendo a Sony artist Shooter

1998 Gavin toca en el Olympic Stadium en Roma con Baglioni (delante de 92,000 personas) y en San Siro en Milán (85,000personas ) y luego continua alrededor de los estadios de fútbol de Italia.

En el 2000 Gavin se convirtió en director musical de leyendas del garage de UK como Artful Dodger y durante este tiempo comenzó a trabajar con el artista de soul altamente aclamado Lewis Taylor. Después Gavin toco en giras con Go WEST y Lisa Stansfield.


A comienzos del 2002 Gavin fue invitado a unirse a Porcupine Tree y ha tocado con ellos desde entonces - grabando los álbumes In Absentia (2002) y Deadwing (2005) y haciendo varias giras en EEUU y Europa.


Gavin ha escrito varios métodos educativos de bateria- Ganando el premio awards con Rhythmic Illusions and Rhythmic Perspectives y dos DVDs Rhythmic Visions and Rhythmic Horizons.

Colin Edwin

Colin nació el 2 de julio de 1970, es el bajista de Porcupine Tree desde 1993. También es miembro de Ex - Wise Heads y Random Noise generator. También participo tocando doble bajo en No-Man, (proyecto paralelo) de Steven Wilson.

Colin es un gran admirador del jazz, y trata de incorporarlo en sus proyectos.

Actualmente promociona los bajos "Spector" y utiliza cuerdas "Ernie Ball".

Richard Barbieri

Richard Barbieri nació el 30 de noviembre de 1967, formo la banda Japan con David Sylvian y Mick Karn, luego de su separación trabajo con Holger Czukay, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Robert Fripp y Steve Jansen.

Actualmente es el tecladista oficial de PT.

John Wesley

Si es extraño que adhiera esto pero también lo merece. John es el guitarrista que acompaña a Pocupine en las giras. Acá les escribiré un poco mas sobre él.

La música de John ha sido llamada liricamente sensible y musicalmente dinámica. Wesley impulsado por el sonido de las guitarras eléctricas y acústicas representa una diversidad de estilos ya sea alternativos, progresivos, rock clásico y folk todos unidos para armar letras conmovedoras. Su estilo, habilidad con las guitarras, versatilidad y energía lo complementa con su conmovedora voz que hace recordar a Roger Waters.

Wesley posee esa sinceridad y sensibilidad que no se encuentra tan a menudo en la música de hoy.

John lleva ya varios años en carrera solitario, ha tenido la oportunidad de abrir para bandas como Marillion, también estuvo acompañando a Mike Tramp (ex - White Lion) en una larga gira junto al también reconocido Peter Frampton y Lynyrd Skynyrd.

El 2005 aparece "Shiver" (mi album favorito) el cual fue co producido por Mark Prator y mezclado por Steven Wilson. Wesley tiene una amplia biografia ha estado abriendo conciertos para Marillion (como indique antes), Fish, Sister Hazel y Blackfield; además de obviamente ser guitarra y backing vocals para Porcupine Tree.

No es un miembro oficial de la banda pero también merece que sea reconocido.
